Acute appendicitis and the leucocyte count.
The age range was between 3 1/2years and 66 years. The total white ceIl count range was 4000 per c.mm. to 23400 per c.mm. 52 cases (52%) had a ceIl count of more than 10000 per c.mm. while in 48 cases (480/0) the leucocyte count was below 10000 per c.mm. The lowest count of 4000 . per c.mm. was seen in a case of acute appendicitis with free pus (grade 2) and the highest count of 23400 per c.mm....

متن کاملDiagnostic markers of infection: comparison of procalcitonin with C reactive protein and leucocyte count.
BACKGROUND Procalcitonin has been advocated as a marker of bacterial infection. OBJECTIVE To evaluate diagnostic markers of infection in critically ill children, comparing procalcitonin with C reactive protein and leucocyte count in a paediatric intensive care unit (PICU). METHODS Procalcitonin, C reactive protein, and leucocyte count were measured in 175 children, median age 16 months, on ...
متن کاملCorrelation of serum C-reactive protein, white blood count and neutrophil percentage with histopathology findings in acute appendicitis
BACKGROUND Acute appendicitis is one of the most common surgical emergencies. Accurate diagnosis of acute appendicitis is based on careful history, physical examination, laboratory and imaging investigation. The aim of the study is to analyze the role of C-reactive protein (CRP), white blood count (WBC) and Neutrophil percentage (NP) in improving the accuracy of diagnosis of acute appendicitis ...
متن کاملPhospholipase A2, C-reactive protein, and white blood cell count in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis.
We compared the predictive value of determining group II phospholipase A2 (PLA2) in serum for diagnosing acute appendicitis with the predictive values of white blood cell count (WBC) and measurement of C-reactive protein (CRP). In this prospective study, we included 186 patients who were undergoing appendectomy after clinical diagnoses of acute appendicitis. The performance of each test was mea...
